More Information:

A Marans is not a Marans unless it lays a #4 egg or darker according to an egg chart approved by the Marans Club of France. The color of the egg will vary throughout the laying cycle. Brown eggs are white eggs with a paint over them called a bloom, and sometimes eggs get more paint than others.
There is no such thing as a Maran, the word is Marans, with an 's' on the end. That is for one chicken, like "This is my Cuckoo Marans." but you could also say "These are my Cuckoo Marans.", meaning more than one.
